About Us
Anchaz GSD is a small German Shepherd Kennel owned by Angela and Malcolm Walden. We first decided upon dog ownership in August 1996 and purchased our first ever German Shepherd puppy 'Chaz'. This dog taught us a lot about general ownership and responsibility and also the breed characteristics. 'Chaz' was such a pleasure to own that in November 1996 we rescued a 3 1/2 year old long coated German Shepherd named 'Gypsy'.
'Gyp' (as he became known), had been through alot in his short life before he came to us, and to be honest when he first arrived we both wondered if we had done the right thing by rescuing him. He had very little trust of humans and wasn't the most obedient dog in the world, to say the least!! However with alot of TLC and hard but rewarding work he became, in our opinion of course, one of the best dogs in the world, he even taught 'Chaz' to act like a 'grown up dog' even to the point of cocking his leg, something 'Chaz' had found a litttle difficult before.
'Gyp' was now the family protector, and whilst he would never have won any shows (being long haired and somewhat 'scruffy') he did win many admirers for his attitude, friendliness and presence.
Chaz on the other hand had a select few friends and this circle was very difficult to get into. He readily welcomed his extended family including the neighbours springer spaniel 'Breeze' (well she thought she was a german shepherd!) and a young black labrador 'Henry' who lodged with us for a month. Chaz was however, very dismissive of everyone outside of the family, such was his way.
Gyp lost a fight with cancer in January 2004 and with his friend and mentor gone, Chaz's health deteriorated and we said goodbye to our friend in March 2005. These first german shepherds gave us our love of this noble breed and shortly after Chaz left us, we decided to research the breed fully and begin our journey into the GSD world of work and show. And so Anchaz GSD was born.
