Introduction

My name is Sam and I own my human’s Angie and Malc.  They can be very funny and difficult to understand sometimes, but I love them none the less.  They get me confused with 2 dogs that also live with us and sometimes think that I am one of them.  Told you humans are funny.  Take for example the male human.  He gets up most days and leaves the den.  No-one knows where he has gone and no-one talks about it either.  Then he will suddenly appear again and just expects to be let back in the den with no fuss.  Told you it was strange.  There do seem to be 2 days when he is at the den all the time.  These days are the best as it seems to make the female human happy and he lets us have lots of fun.  He is a really good ball thrower.  He can be a little jealous because I look after the female so well.  She can’t be trusted to walk around the house on her own.  Heaven only knows what would happen if she went somewhere without me.  I’m sure her foot would drop off if I didn’t lay on it all the time.  Will have to fill you in on the dogs that live with us next time we speak.  Big licks, Sam x x

The Family

Well the humans are doing ok at the moment.  They like being in a routine, which is easier for me to take care of them (remember I told you that the female cannot be trusted on her own!).  I also live with two dogs.  The first is a male called Jed.  He is slightly older than me and he bullied me a little when I was small but I quickly realised that the female human seems to dislike that behaviour so seeing as I am always following her around to check she is ok, Jed doesn’t get much chance to bully me anymore.  He is a good guard dog, being a bit of a bruiser, but goes really silly around the female human.  He would hate me telling you this but he is a big softy around her and does everything she tells him (and he likes cuddles too!!!!).  Life was really sweet until last November, when all of a sudden this little female dog arrived, named Kass.  Well everyone’s world got turned upside down.  Don’t get me wrong, she is pretty cool to play with, but jeesh, mood swings.  The female human says that it is something to do with hormones (don’t understand what they are – but very glad I don’t get them).  Anyway that’s the whole family covered so now future dogblogs can be more about me (and about time too).  Big licks, Sam x x

Food & Other Stuff

Why is it that day after day the humans that I own keep treating me like one of the dogs sometimes?  I know for definite that the female human and the male human do not eat the same thing day in and day out.  Their food also smells a lot nicer AND they don’t eat it outdoors in a bowl either.  I have, on occasions, managed to taste their food.  The female human kindly leaves some and puts it in a handy container in the kitchen.  She lets me know when there is some more food in this container by wagging her finger at me and saying ‘stay away from the bin’.  That’s my cue to try some nice tasty morsels.  There are other things that confuse me sometimes too.  In the evening we all settle down to watch TV and at first the humans got really upset when I joined them on the soft bed type thing they sit on.  They kept telling me to lie on the floor!!!!  I think they must have thought that the floor was more comfortable, but I soon let them know that it isn’t comfy at all.  Of course, lying on the floor also means that I can’t keep a proper eye on the female human too.  It took a while but I soon let them know where the best position for me was.  Right next to the female human on the bed type sitting place thingy.  Will fill you in on another ‘ritual’ next time.  Big licks, Sam xxxxx

Out & About

Ok dogbloggers, going out for walks.  Is this really necessary?  Especially when I have just made my bed on the seaty thing in the living room, really warm and comfy.  The female human insists on this ritual everyday of putting a collar and lead on and making me go outside of the den with her.  Don’t get me wrong, sometimes we have loads of fun and games, but sometimes I get told off a lot too.  I’m still making lists of things she does like and things she doesn’t like.  A few of the things that I’m apparently not to do are really fun so it is really difficult.  For example, chasing the neighbour’s cat is bad and chasing ducks is bad, but she laughs when I chase the big black birds (crows I think they are called).  Eating things I find on the floor is bad and rolling in something nice and sticky and smelly is bad.  It is really hard as you can see because everything I think is good is in fact, bad.  I’m sure with some more training I will soon have the humans behaving normally.  Till next time dogbloggers.  Big licks, Sam x x

Dog Shows

Two words dog bloggers.  Dog Shows.  How boring are they!!!!  From what I can gather, we all get into the big think with wheels and the male and female human drive us to a strange place.  Jed and Kass get groomed and fussed over.  Their ears get cleaned and coat get shined and all fluffed up.  The male human takes me out of the big thing with wheels and tells me to do a toilet.  Really! In public AND in front of strangers.  Well as you can imagine, this is not an easy task to do on command and to be honest, very rarely happens.  I then get put back in the big wheely thing and off they all go.  A short time passes (seems like forever!) and the male human returns and takes me out again and we go through the same routine.  He walks me around saying ‘toilet’, ‘toilet’ and I stare at him blankly.  This happens a few times throughout the day.  Eventually they all come back with cards and rosettes and the female human is all smiles.  I’m glad she is happy but what about me?  The female human then takes me out and of course when she asks me to toilet I oblige – it pays to keep her happy.  Back into the wheely thing and home.  That is it.  That is dog showing.  Told you it was boring.  I will talk more about stuff I do next time, far more interesting.

Sleepovers

Every now and again the female human takes me to other places to stay.  Most of them are nice places.  They all feed me and give me a bed but some are better than others.  My favourite place other than home is a place called Grandmas.  There are some humans that also stay there and the female human seems to like them a lot.  When she leaves me there I get up on the big seating thing and make a bed straight away.  The new humans are always playing with me and stroking me which helps me not miss the female human too much.  But the best thing about this place called grandmas is the food.  I get anything I ask for and it is always something that these new humans are eating.  I have had sausages, steak, pizza and loads of really yummy stuff.  One place I don’t like going to is a place called Kennels.  The female human only ever takes me to this place when I am going with one of the dogs but it’s not really ME!  The food is ok, but it is dog food, and the bed is satisfactory but it’s not a big seating thingy.  The humans are nice but because there are lots of dogs at the Kennels they don’t have loads of time to stroke me all day.  I prefer the grandmas place so will wag my tail extra hard next time the female human says she is taking me there.

Summertime

It’s official!!! I am a sun worshipper.  Apparently the female human thinks I would be a good ‘beach bum’ – yeah I don’t know what she means either.  What do I love most about warm weather?  So many things that I can’t count them on one paw.  Reason one; I get to trot in and out of the house all day without having my paws wiped constantly.  Reason two; the humans sit outside and everyone relaxes and I get to sunbathe.  Reason three; and this is probably the best reason of all, we get to have water fights and even though the female human has hold of the hose pipe, I always win.  Great fun and cools us down a treat.  Now that I am over two years old and know everything, I know that summer does not last for ever so I am going to make the most of it and get myself one of those posh paddling pools that the dog over the road has got.  He is always showing off and bragging about his outdoor pool.  Suppose I will have to share it with the two dogs that we have.  I don’t mind really.  Remember to slip, slap, slop.  Sorry another female human saying that I don’t understand but she only says it when it is sunny.

Uneasy feeling

Something really weird is going on.  Kass, the female dog has got really fat but the humans are over the moon.  They keep saying things like ‘Ooh won’t be long now’ and ‘Sam your gonna be an uncle’.  Kass is eating us out of house and home and gets the best seat in the house and she has done nothing to deserve it.   Now call me a cynic, but I’ve got a dreadful feeling in my water that whatever is coming, is not going to be in my best interest.  I’m going to work a bit harder at sticking close to the female human to make sure I don’t miss anything.  Watch this space…………………………………..

Puppies

Our lives have been turned upside down.  One weekend, some little puppies appeared which has completely disrupted my whole day.  The female human is spending most of her time with Kass and the pups.  I get fed and walked and still get to lounge on the seaty bed thing and watch the square entertainment box, but not with the female human.  Oh and the mess.  How can something so small make so much mess!  The female human says that I was once like that!  I’m sure that even if I was a puppy at one stage or another, I would have been the best puppy around.  They are into everything that is mine too.  The go into my bed, run off with toys and get all the humans cooing over them.  I’m not overly impressed to say the least.  I have overheard the humans saying that the pups will be leaving home soon, so I shall just bide my time.  Paws crossed that life returns to normal again soon.

Normality

Well as quickly as they came, they left again.  Those pesky puppies have gone to lovely new homes.  Now between me and you, I actually miss the little tearaways.  They were fun, and the house seems very quiet without them.  The female human was very sad to see them go, so I did lots of goofy things to make her smile again.  I am getting my cuddle time back and even Kass, the female dog is being super nice to me (female human says that she is substituting me for her pups! Weird).  Hopefully, now our home will get back to normal and I can concentrate on having some mini adventures to tell you about.

Friends

Being such a handsome fellow and extremely sociable and very likeable it is understandable that I have a lot of friends, so thought that this issue I would introduce you to some.  My main friends that I see the most are a very energetic group of collies.  My favourite one is a young male called Buddy and we just run and run and run.  There is a female called Jenny who is very pretty but she thinks I’m a bit clumsy.  Badger is a really nice chap but once he has the ball you hardly ever get it back and last but not least is Kira who is very striking as she has different coloured eyes.  I have other friends too and they are very different.  They are white with black spots all over and they are such fun.  Cassie tries to teach me to find furry animals in the woods but I just end up chasing her around the trees and Jack is a very laid back cool dude.  I usually make friends wherever I go but they are my main ones.

Christmas

Wow that is definitely my favourite time of year!  Food, toys, lots of visitors and loads and loads of walkies!  It all started off with the male human getting us all in the big thing with wheels and driving us for such a long time that I thought it would never end, but it was worth it.  We ended up in a place where the people spoke funny and men wore skirts.  Our new den was right on the beach, which I ran up and down on every day.  The other humans visited too (the ones that live at the place called Grandma’s) and they lived with us in the temporary den for a while.  Not sure what the ritual is with ‘presents’ but the female human would give me one and I would rip off the shiny skin to get to the tasty treats inside.  The humans had some lovely feasts and we did too.  We are already back to normality though but I will definitely look forward to doing that again.

Rosette

I won a rosette!!!!!  and anyone wouldv'e thought I'd won crufts by the way the female human reacted and the applause I got.  Apparently it was for 2nd place for 'Best Movement' - well don't understand what was wrong with the judge that they didn't give me the 1st place but humans are very very strange sometimes.  The female human was so happy that I thought she was gonna burst.  To be honest as good as it felt to be a 'show' dog for a little while I think I will leave it to Jed and Kass, but watch this space - I may just get the bug and get some more rosettes in the future.

The White Stuff

Weird!!! weird!!!! weird!!!!  but I LOVE IT!!!!  went out today as normal but cold white stuff on the ground - called snow apparently.  It feels great on my paws but it is very very slippery but the best bit is running with my nose down and then lifting my head up with a pile of white stuff on the end of my nose.  The confusing part of it though is when the female human gets balls made of white stuff and throws them for me to fetch but they disappear!!!  it's a complete mystery.  Also if I am quick enough to catch one of the white balls, by the time I get back to the female human it has disappeared, and I know I definitely caught it.  Apparently this 'snow' stuff doesn't last for long so I intend to make the most of it while I can.

It's happened again

But worse this time.

Puppies! again! 8 of them! - it makes the female very happy but what about Sam.  They are cute, but what about Sam! they need their own room, but what about Sam! they need attention, but what about Sam!.  I'm not allowed in the conservatory.  My walks with the female human are shorter.  My cuddles are less (well not on demand anyway).  Whats so special about 8 little dogs that can't do any tricks or feed themselves?  I just don't get it.  I know that things will get back to normal again soon enough so me being the martyr that I am, I will just grin and bear it for now as I will be the cute one in the family again soon.

Be good all

Worst of all

For some reason one of the pups has not left - it has stayed and stayed and stayed.  It eats our food, gets all the best toys, takes up soooo much of the females time too cleaning up and training.  The pup has been called Lexi and has no idea of how to live with us.  She goes into my bed and takes toys off me and jumps on me when I'm asleep (thats the most annoying).  Everyone who visits coos over Lexi and ignores me and thinks she is soooo cute and lovely.  The female human says I will love her in time but I don't think so.  I'm trying to hatch a plan that will make them give her to another family.  Perhaps if I dig up the garden they will think it's her and get angry.  Hummmm I will have to think this through properly but watch this space.

Ok she was right

Little Lexi has grown a bit more and is now, my best friend in the whole world.  She plays tug with me and wrestling games and chase (we sometimes play chase until we are dizzy).  She pulls my tail which doesn't hurt really as she is still very much smaller than me but it amuses the female human alot when she sees me walking around with Lexi in tow.  She has a floppy ear like me, although this won't be for much longer.  I do enjoy playing with Lexi but sometimes it can be nice when she eventually falls asleep.  We dig up the garden together which is fun too so I am pleased she is staying (just don't tell anyone else that I like her).

I'm Seeing Double
There is two of them! Double Trouble! It seems that Lexi's sister has come back to live with us and I seriously can't cope (well ok perhaps a bit of a drama queen there).  I think I'm getting too old for this.  All I want to do is spend time with the female human and sleep on the sofa.  The young ladies (and I use that term loosely) take up loads of the female human's time and every time I'm dozing on the sofa either Lexi or Gemma stick their cold wet nose in my face!  I mean, who wants that when you are in the land of nod.  Hopefully, they will grow up fast and need as much sleep as me.

Will keep you all informed.
